K-9 Unit

The Department's first Canine (K-9) Unit was developed through the support of the Quincy Exchange Club and the Illinois State Police.  Our first K-9 was a German Shepherd breed named "Jake".

The department currently has two K-9 units. Max and Uno.

Max  joined the department in the fall of 2002.  "Max" is a Belgian Malinois (pronounced MAL-in-wah) breed, which is one of the varieties of the Belgian Shepherd dog breed.

"Max"  with his biggest find - cannabis bundles totaling 555 pounds

Uno joined the department in June of 2007.  "Uno" is a Dutch Shepherd breed. The Quincy Police Department Citizen's Police Academy Alumni raised the money to buy the Uno, a specially-equipped vehicle, in-car video camera and computer, as well as pay for training.
